Ring ring…. it’s Google (but it’s really not).
Have you been receiving spam calls from a company pretending to be Google, asking you to update your local Google Places Business Maps listing?
Press 1 -If yes
Press 2- If no
Press 3- If you aren’t sure whether or not you are being scammed
Press 4- And hold for an hour, if you’d like to speak with someone
According to Barry Schwartz at seroundtable.com, these mock Google calls have been going on for quite some time.
“Baruch Labunski from Rank Secure in Canada pinged me the other day asking me why I can’t stop the phone calls he is getting from spammers claiming implying they are from Google, trying to sell him services to update his local Google Places Business Maps listing.
He said he constantly gets phone calls, automated phone calls, that say “Our records show you have not updated your free Google (business) listing.” It then asks you to press 1 to update the listing and 2 to exit. I had no clue what he was talking about. I never got a call like this but it seems many do.”
